App Timer Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 28, 2026
This policy describes how the App Timer Chrome extension handles information when you use its website timers, usage summaries, and reminders.
Summary
App Timer processes browsing information locally to run the features you choose. Your saved websites, time history, settings, and in-extension rating are stored in your browser. The extension does not send this information to the developer or an analytics service. No account is required.
Information the extension handles
- Website addresses: App Timer reads tab URLs to identify the current website and detect navigation. It stores domain names for websites you add and for their usage totals, rather than keeping a log of full URLs, page paths, or search queries.
- Time and timer settings: It stores time spent on saved websites by date, your expiration preference (block, close the tab, or show a reminder), and the state of active timers.
- Browser state: It uses tab and window identifiers, focus changes, and screen-lock status to decide when a timer should run. It does not record keystrokes or mouse movements.
- Local feedback preferences: It stores how many times the extension popup has opened and the star rating you select, so it can decide when to display or hide the rating prompt. Temporary popup identifiers prevent duplicate counting. A first-open flag may be stored if a welcome-page link is enabled.
App Timer does not collect page text, form entries, passwords, payment information, cookies, or screenshots. Its website script displays timer controls and blocking overlays; it does not scrape website content.
How information is used
Information is used to identify saved websites, count active browsing time, show daily totals, run timers, apply your selected expiration behavior, remember settings, and manage the feedback prompt. Browsing information is not used for advertising, profiling, or sale.
Storage and retention
Persistent settings and usage records are kept in Chrome's local extension storage. App Timer does not use Chrome Sync storage or operate a server for this data.
Usage history is limited to the most recent 30 recorded date entries; older entries are removed during normal storage updates. These are dates with recorded activity, not necessarily 30 consecutive calendar days. Saved websites, preferences, and feedback state remain until removed or the extension's data is cleared.
Active timer state and temporary popup identifiers are kept in browser-session storage. This storage is cleared when the browser session ends or Chrome resets the extension session, including on extension reload or update.
Your choices and deletion
- Remove a website in Settings to stop tracking it. Removing a website does not by itself erase previously recorded usage totals.
- Use the clear-history control in Settings to delete recorded time. Saved websites, current timers, and feedback preferences remain. A running timer can begin recording new time afterward.
- Disable the extension to stop its operation.
- Uninstall the extension to remove its Chrome-managed local extension storage. Copies included in any device or browser-profile backups you maintain are governed by your backup settings.
The developer cannot access, retrieve, or remotely delete data held only in your browser.
Permissions
App Timer requests website access so it can recognize websites and display timer controls on sites you choose to save. Timer scripts are registered for saved websites.
- Storage: Saves settings, website selections, usage totals, and timer and feedback state.
- Active tab: Provides access to the current tab when you invoke the extension.
- Scripting: Adds timer controls and overlays to saved websites.
- Alarms: Provides background timer checkpoints.
- Idle: Detects when the screen is locked so counting can pause. Ordinary inactivity while watching a video does not pause the timer.
Sharing and external pages
App Timer does not sell or transmit your locally stored website list, usage history, timer settings, or selected in-extension rating to third parties. It contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
If review, welcome, or uninstall links are enabled in a release, the extension may open the corresponding external page. No local usage records or selected rating are appended to those links. Selecting a star inside the extension does not automatically submit a Chrome Web Store review; any public review requires a separate action in the store.
External websites receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and browser information, and may use their own cookies. Information you choose to submit to an external page is governed by that site's privacy policy. Chrome and the Chrome Web Store also handle information under Google's policies independently of this extension. The developer may receive store-provided aggregate installation statistics and reviews you choose to publish.
Security
App Timer relies on Chrome's extension storage and the security of your browser profile and device. It does not add a separate encryption layer to locally stored data. Keep Chrome and your operating system updated and protect access to your device.
Limited use
App Timer's use of information obtained through Chrome APIs is limited to its stated user-facing features and follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Locally processed browsing information is not used for personalized advertising or unrelated purposes.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the extension's features or data practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Material changes that require additional notice or consent will be addressed before the new data handling takes place.
Website hosting
This public welcome page and privacy policy are hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process IP addresses and technical request information to deliver and secure the website, under the GitHub Privacy Statement. These pages contain no analytics scripts or tracking cookies added by App Timer. Website hosting does not give the developer access to the extension data stored in your browser.
Contact
For privacy questions, contact the App Timer developer, Anastasiia Veremenko, through the project's support page. Issues are public; do not include personal information or browsing history.
